The scalp care market is growing significantly with heightened awareness of the pivotal role scalp health plays in overall hair wellness. As we recognize the importance of this trend, Biolage is launching a new and improved scalp care line: Scalp Sync. By obtaining expertise in scalp care, professionals position themselves at the forefront of this burgeoning market, equipped to address the specific needs and concerns of individuals seeking optimal hair and scalp health. And now is the perfect time to become a Biolage Certified Scalp Specialist through this certification course offered by the brand.

Clients Are Looking for Scalp Solutions

Research shows that two out of five women and one out of three men are concerned by scalp issues. As a professional, you hold a robust position to assess and offer recommendations to your clients. Engaging in discussions about scalp health may require sensitivity, but it's crucial to recognize that your clients trust you. Consider initiating these conversations by saying something like “Can we discuss your scalp health today?” particularly if you observe issues such as excess oiliness, dryness, or flakiness.

What To Look For

  1. An oily scalp produces more sebum than the scalp and hair can absorb. These clients need to shampoo every day. You will see hair that looks greasy and visibly darker at the root and hair that goes flat at the root within a day of shampooing. The client’s scalp may even feel “tingly” toward the end of the day.
  2. A dry scalp produces less sebum than needed. You’ll notice the scalp surface looking dry and cracked—like dry skin. You might notice flakes, which are often mistaken for dandruff. Dry scalps may feel tight and itchy and the drier they become, the more sensitivity your client experiences.
  3. Scalp sensitivity is often caused by a combination of dryness and bacteria or other environmental aggressors. The scalp may appear red or cracked and the client will feel irritation, itchiness or even burning.
  4. Dandruff is caused by an abundance of yeast on the scalp, along with excess sebum. You will see patches of yellow or white flakes as well as flakes that drop to the shoulders. Clients may complain of an uneven or bumpy scalp, oiliness or itching.

What To Do

Whenever a scalp issue is indicated, kickstart your client’s routine with a luxurious scalp treatment, featuring the new Scalp Sync Purifying Scalp Concentrate. It’s suitable for all scalp types and it’s an essential ingredient for scalp health. After applying the Purifying Scalp Concentrate on dry hair, combine it with a five-minute massage, incorporating spa-like elements such as fragrant candles or scent sticks, warm towels and soothing music. Allow the concentrate to sit for 10 minutes, then rinse and proceed with the correct shampoo and conditioning duo.

Once your client’s service is complete, you’ll want to assemble a take-home regimen to maintain optimum scalp health. The new Biolage Scalp Sync line includes a range of products formulated for each specific scalp issue:

Oily Scalp Regimen

Scalp Sync Purifying Scalp Concentrate: This gentle, pre-shampoo treatment is infused with fermented tea and glycolic acid. It exfoliates and clarifies the scalp and removes buildup and excess oil.

Scalp Sync Clarifying Shampoo: Clarifies the scalp and removes 100% of all residue with this gentle cleanser. It won’t strip or dry the hair and is suitable for color-treated clients.

Scalp Sync Universal Conditioner: All scalp types benefit from this lightweight, gentle conditioner.
