The world has changed, business has changed, and now more than ever, our community needs to come together in combining resources and support to accommodate our current stay-at-home reality. From behind the chair to behind the computer screen, the beauty industry has pivoted to adapt to our new normal especially when it comes to education. And while there’s plenty of online education happening daily―including our own “We’re Here For You” Series on Facebook and Instagram―SalonCentric now brings you the ability to earn Continuing Education credits right in the safety of your living room.
With SalonCentric’s Zoom programming, learn a new skill, refine your technique and level up your knowledge while taking the next step to plan your path forward. “This is a new way for us to educate stylists directly in their homes while observing social distancing rules,” says SalonCentric VP of Education & Shows Brittany Hickman. “With a longer-length, more in-depth format, we are able to approve Continuing Education hours for stylists, fee-free during this stay-at-home period. It’s just one more example of how SalonCentric is continuing to find ways to support our stylists while everyone is in quarantine, and to help prepare them for re-entering their salons with fresh ideas.”
Kicking off this series with a Hands-On Cutting Class, Redken Global Artistic Director Chris Baran (@coachchrisbaran) walked 50 participants through cutting, styling and finishing techniques in this specialty class focused on a “Mod Bob.” Baran’s atypical, modern bob is the kind of cut that allows your client to walk out of the house with air-dried, ‘I woke up like this’ hair―and it’s a cut you need in your technique repertoire ASAP.
This highly interactive, 2.5-hour digital class complete with multiple Breakout Room sessions and Q&A, was facilitated by Redken Global Artist Brian Washburn (@brianwashburnhair) and Redken Artist Ellen Devine (@ellendevinehair). In advance of the class, participants were sent mannequin heads along with table clamps to simulate being in a live, hands-on setting. “We’re not expecting perfection. All we want is to get you to progress,” says Baran, who made it a point to create a safe learning environment, encouraging his class to work at their own speed and accept the idea that mistakes are part of the learning process. “Risk makes people uncomfortable because they don’t want to make a mistake, but the only way we learn is by taking that risk. Mistakes are ok. Mistakes are like falling down, but when you stand back up, you’re still further ahead than when you were before so just go in and cut the darn thing.”
All 50 attendees of the class gained free access by participating in a @saloncentric-sponsored social contest.
