Shampooing a textured guest requires extra attention to detail. On average, clients with tighter texture types do not shampoo as often and are using more products on a daily basis. And so, textured clients depend on stylists to get a deep scalp cleanse in the salon. As shampooing is the foundation of any style, making sure the client’s hair is clean and detangled is the key for any service. According to a study by Salon Emotion, 70 percent of guests will not return if their backbar sink experience is not a positive one so creating a positive, relaxing experience helps ensure your guests will come back.
The Mizani Moisture Fusion Collection is perfect at the sink for any texture type. Moisture Fusion’s Gentle Clarifying Shampoo contains charcoal which gently cleanses the hair while removing build-up and impurities. Moisture Fusion’s Moisture Rich Shampoo includes coconut oil which adds moisture and shine. And Moisture Fusion Intense Moisturizing Mask deeply conditions your clients’ hair without weighing it down. Check out the steps below on how to cleanse, condition and prime your textured clients’ hair.
Step 1: Use your fingers to detangle while hair is dry to remove any visible knots or tangles.
Step 2: Using a detangler or paddle brush, start at the ends of their wet hair and work up towards the scalp in small sections.
PRO TIP: Reapply water as necessary to prevent any breakage when detangling.
Step 3: Before applying the shampoo, part the hair into two.
Step 4: Emulsify Moisture Fusion’s Gentle Clarifying Shampoo between your hands.
Step 5: With one hand, smooth shampoo down the center and across the hairline with the other hand. Both hands should meet at the nape.
Step 6: Vigorously massage back and forth to cleanse the scalp, rather than in circular motions. Start massaging towards the nape, working your way towards the crown, then the hairline. Interlock your fingers to ensure a thorough cleanse of the scalp. Then, run your fingers through hair to the ends. This will help prevent tangling.
PRO TIP: The scalp massage should last no less than 60 seconds. If your guest upgrades to a treatment, the massage should last no less than three minutes.
Step 7: Part the hair and run your hand across the scalp. Repeat to create a deep and thorough cleanse.
Step 8: Rinse the hair and direct the water down towards the sink. If the suds are cloudy, rinse again.
Step 9: Scoop a generous amount of Moisture Fusion Intense Moisturizing Mask into your hands and apply to the guests’ hair beginning at the ends.
Step 10: Gently move up towards the scalp.
PRO TIP: Always detangle with your fingers while applying the mask.
Step 11: Let the mask sit for five to seven minutes. Rinse with warm water. After rinsing, hair will look visibly moisturized and feel soft. Finish rinsing the hair with a shot of cool water to close the cuticle. Wrap your guest’s hair tightly with a towel and continue the rest of the service.
