No frizz, no fuss, formulated without formaldehyde, Pro Smooth Over Frizz-Fighting Service is amika’s first in-salon vegan smoothing service. It reduces frizz on all hair types and textures for six to seven weeks, and is clinically proven to reduce frizz in high humidity [1].

Amika Pro Smooth Over

Introducing amika Pro Smooth Over

Pro Smooth Over is a two-part service that requires zero bowls or brushes. It was designed with hair pros in mind and features a stylist-friendly treatment spray, so there’s no need to measure, pour, or waste any formula. amika’s frizz-fighting service is formulated without formaldehyde or protein, which means no harsh smell or nasty ingredients.

The key ingredient, glyoxylic acid, is an organic acid compound that restructures keratin in the hair cortex to smooth while increasing shine and manageability of all hair types. When heat is applied to the hair, glyoxylic acid creates a hydrophobic barrier—think of it like a raincoat for your strands—to temporarily block humidity for the smoothest results.

Pro Smooth Over Priming Shampoo

First, shampoo the hair using amika Pro Smooth Over Priming Shampoo. This clarifying and deeply cleansing shampoo helps break down product buildup for the ultimate hair prep.

Pro Smooth Over Frizz-Fighting Treatment

Next, apply amika Pro Smooth Over Frizz-Fighting Treatment, a heat-activated, intensive smoothing spray that visibly reduces frizz for all hair types and textures.

Smooth Doesn’t Have To Mean Straight

This frizz-fighting service was developed to offer a smoothing solution for all hair types that won’t alter the hair’s natural pattern. amika Pro Smooth Over delivers results that still look and feel like your client’s haironly smoother, shinier, healthier-looking, and easier to manage and maintain. To make their Pro Smooth Over service versatile and customizable for all hair types, amika developed two sets of service instructions to better suit your client’s specific hair needs.

Before you perform the service, consult with your client to better understand their preferred hair styling and haircare routine. This will help your client better understand what to expect from the service and help you determine which service instructions to follow from the two options, below.

Amika Pro Smooth Over Curls

Natural Curl Service

The natural curl service instructions are best suited for clients with waves, curls, and coils that most often wear their hair naturally and are looking for less frizz and more manageability.

Amika Smooth Over Service

Straight Service

The straight service instructions are perfect for all hair types and ideal for clients who typically blow out or straighten their hair. For wavy, curly, or coily hair types, there will be temporary elongation when using these instructions. The hair will be straighter than before the treatment, but will still require heat styling to achieve a sleek, straight look after the first 48 hours.

Aftercare 101

To maintain frizz-free results, your clients should wait at least 48 hours before getting their hair wet, including washing or excessive sweating. In the meantime, there’s no wait time for styling hair, including the use of styling products, hair clips, and hair ties. After the first 48 hours, your clients can use any of amika’s shampoos and conditioners (all of which are sulfate-free) and resume their usual styling routine.

We recommend waiting eight weeks after a client’s last chemical smoothing/relaxer/perm service and two weeks before and after any color service (same-day root touch-ups are fine) before performing Pro Smooth Over.
