Malibu C’s Color Disruptor, Color Pigment Remover (CPR), and Direct Dye Lifter (DDL) XL are essential tools for every corrective color, offering effective, non-damaging options for removing unwanted artificial color.
Below, learn how and when to use these color-correcting products to ensure your clients leave your chair with vibrant, healthy-looking hair.
When To Use Malibu C’s Color Disruptor and CPR
Malibu C's Color Disruptor and CPR are your recommended first steps in a non-oxidative approach to artificial pigment removal. Whether dealing with semi-permanent, demi-permanent, or permanent hair color, these ammonia-free products prioritize your client's hair health by gently removing artificial pigment without lifting the natural hair color.
Tools You'll Need:
- Malibu C Un-Do-Goo pH 9 Shampoo
- Malibu C Color Disruptor
- Malibu C Color Pigment Remover (CPR)
- Gloves
- Croc clips
- Bowl and brush
- Scale
Step-by-Step Application
Step 1: Begin by shampooing with Malibu C Un-Do-Goo pH 9 Shampoo. Rinse and towel-dry the hair.
Step 2: Apply Malibu C Color Disruptor at the shampoo bowl, focusing on the areas where you want to remove the artificial pigment. Comb through hair to ensure even saturation. Do not rinse.
Step 3: Activate Malibu C CPR. Add 1 packet of CPR to 4 oz. of warm water, then mix the product and allow the crystals to dissolve.
Step 4: Layer Malibu C CPR directly on top of Malibu C Color Disruptor. Use the palm of your hand to push the product into the hair. After applying CPR, flat wrap the hair around your client’s head and cover with a processing cap.
Step 5: Apply heat to the hair for up to 45 minutes. Use a constant, consistent heat source, such as a traditional hooded dryer, heat lamp, or the Malibu C Spa Mist II.
Step 6: After processing is complete, remove your client's hair from the heat. Do not allow to cool.
Step 7: Remove the processing cap and pull the product from the hair using your fingers (like a squeegee). Rinse the product out using moderately hot water until the water runs clear.
Step 8: Shampoo the hair three times using Un-Do-Goo pH 9 Shampoo, massaging and lathering vigorously. Move your hands down the hair shaft while scrubbing the product from the hair, then rinse.
Step 9: Determine if you achieved your desired amount of color removal. You can expect one to three levels of artificial pigment removal using Malibu C's Color Disruptor and CPR.
- If the desired amount of removal is not achieved, repeat steps two through eight up to three times.
- It may be necessary to remove more than one to three levels of pigment. In this scenario, your next step is to use Malibu C DDL XL following the Color Disruptor and CPR service.
Step 10: If the desired amount of removal is achieved, condition the hair with Malibu C Miracle Repair Hair Reconstructor. If providing a chemical service, apply Malibu C Miracle Repair following the chemical service.
When To Use Malibu C DDL XL
Malibu C DDL XL may be necessary to achieve optimal removal of the previous artificial pigment. The purpose of beginning the corrective color service with Malibu C Color Disruptor and CPR is to remove as much of the artificial pigment as possible without oxidizing and compromising the integrity of the hair.
Once you have removed as much artificial pigment as possible with this first step, it's then recommended to use Malibu C DDL XL. This oxidative product has the ability to shift natural hair color and its versatile formula can be mixed with water, 10-volume developer, or 20-volume developer to achieve the desired lift—making it a gentler alternative to traditional lighteners.
